ABOUT BENT WATER BREWING COMPANY

Bent Water Brewing was born from the mind of a scientist, artist, and beer enthusiast. From there, the Bent Water team formed, drawing in unique expertise to strike a balance between the artistic and scientific complexities of brewing and operating a brewery. The result?

Ingenuity & Predictability – – Creativity & Quality – – Variety & Familiarity

Bent Water Brewing is proud to call Lynn, MA home because of the city’s rich industrial roots and superior water source. We believe passion can turn industry into art; and with careful, creative manipulation, we bend water into unique, flavorful beer.

The Gorilla Icon of Bent Water Brewing: A Symbol of Innovation and Playfulness

Bent Water Brewing has embraced the gorilla as a prominent icon on many of their can designs, reflecting both the boldness and creativity of their brand. In 2021, their Double Thunder Funk beer earned a Gold tie at the Craft Beer Marketing Awards for Best Can Design (16oz).

The gorilla brings the thunder and adds that extra level of funk’… As a graphic label, the artist captured this theme of movement, giving the impression of a crushable beer, explains the designs inspiration.

Bent Waters Supercharger New England India Pale Ale pays homage to Lynn, MAs industrial legacy, referencing the first American jet engine, which was manufactured locally in 1941. Innovation and industry are deeply woven into Lynns past and present, making it a fitting inspiration for the brewery.

As the story goes, Test pilot Jack Woolams famously wore a gorilla mask, bowler hat, and cigar while flying the P-59 Airacomet, America’s first jet fighter. He would join formations with pilots of propeller-driven aircraft, wave at them, and then zoom away, leaving them baffled. Woolams prank was designed to create such an outrageous tale that no one would suspect he was actually piloting a top-secret aircraft in broad daylight. Of course, not everyone understood the jokeespecially those unfamiliar with the P-59!

It was only natural to select Miami-based artist Ruben Ubiera, also known as Urban Ruben, for this curation. As a Dominican artist with deep connections to Lynn and Salem, Ruben has frequently incorporated gorillas into his murals. For him, the gorilla symbolizes street artan art form that once lacked the recognition and appreciation it enjoys today. But times have changed, and street art, like the gorilla, is now bold and impossible to ignorejust like the giant gorilla mural that now adorns the wall of Bent Water Brewing Company!
