The concept for this piece was created in collabration with a cohort of educators and students from St. Mary’s, Lynn’s Catholic School located just a block from this site on the YMCA campus. This cohort took on the 2026 prompt “Where does your power lie in difficult times” and responded with their faith and the pursuit of order and truth in our everchanging and complex world. The figure is loosely inspired by Carlo Acutis — the Catholic church’s youngest canonized saint who passed away from leukemia at the age of 15 and is oftentimes referred to as the “Patron Saint of the Internet”. Students and educators worked alongside Taylor White contributing to the painting of the ground level elements, an abacus, a lute, and the boy’s sneakers.
