Geo “GoFive” Ortega has provided the public of Boston with access to creative and inventive installations of public art for over ten years. Through the medium of aerosol, and drawing on the rich mural and graffiti traditions associated with inner city Boston, he has worked to create a body of art that attracts diverse groups of people, all while paying homage to the unique qualities of the communities in which he works.
Genaro Ortega, better known as GoFive, is a Boston-based graffiti artist. He grew up in Roslindale and Roxbury, Massachusetts and has been drawing all his life, with a focus on portrait art. In addition to painting exceptional murals, Ortega has served his communities through education, and was a celebrated art teacher at Madison Park High School of Roxbury, where he and his crews have been tagging in an effort to make the school more beautiful and give the students more positive messages as they walk through the halls. He has also served as a mentor at Artists for Humanity, helping teenagers hone their craft.
GoFive is known for his empowering, community-driven murals across Boston and beyond, including a stunning portrait of Mel King, an important leader in the Commonwealth’s political activism and community organizing history. GoFive participated in the City of Boston’s 2024 Transformative Mural program alongside TakeOne to paint an epic mural for the Shelburne Community Center.
GoFive believes that by painting a mural within the community that he originated from will provide an experience that is not only rich artistically but also personally – one that will result in a permanent artistic resource for the community.
