2022 Street Art Tour | 4 Cities

4 Cities. 25+ Murals. Endless Collaboration!
From the Caribbean to Cambodia, all here in Massachusetts
June - September 2022

Our itinerary across four Gateway Cities is rooted in cultural programming with incredible talent that celebrates Latinx, Portuguese and Cambodian influences in Massachusetts. We collaborated with local, regional, national and international street artists to create meaningful murals and creative interventions in each community. Our goal is to expand the impact of each installation beyond its own locality, connecting passionate coalitions along the way. We hope you’ll join us!

  • El Corazón de Holyoke — Holyoke, Massachusetts — June 14 - 27, 2022

To honor the upcoming state designation of Holyoke's Puerto Rican Cultural District — the second in the country! — Beyond Walls and Nueva Esperanza Inc. united a local coalition to produce a series of murals from the Caribbean's most celebrated artists, culminating during the much-anticipated Noche de San Juan Festival.

  • Viva Murals Fall River — Fall River, Massachusetts — July 17 - 31, 2022

We joined forces with Fall River Arts and Culture Council (FRACC), Viva Fall River, and Fall River Public Schools to produce world-class murals in the downtown that highlight this gem of a city as a destination. Driven by the powerful influence of the country’s largest Portuguese-American population, our dynamic collaboration this year is rooted in our cultural exchanges and education programs, which tie into a direct platform for our innovative Classroom to the Streets initiative.

  • ArtUp Lowell — Lowell, Massachusetts — August 14 - 28, 2022

In September 2021, ArtUp Lowell and Beyond Walls produced the first large-scale murals in Lowell through a coalition of local nonprofits, business leaders and city officials, featuring the artwork of internationally renowned Latinx muralists, Angurria and David Zayas. Local artists were hired to assist these murals and advance their craft, while hundreds of Lowell’s youth participated in dialogues with the artists. Collectively, we amplified Lowell’s reputation as a center for vibrant, multicultural art that celebrates our communities. In 2022, we continued our mission of bringing culturally responsive large-scale public art into our neighborhoods. 2022 Murals were featured on buildings from Coalition for Better Acre, Eliot Church, Middlesex Community College and UMass Lowell campuses.

  • Beyond Walls — Lynn, Massachusetts — September 7 - 20, 2022

We wrapped our Street Art Tour at home in Lynn! Our 2022 Activation celebrates the epic return of Angurria… and the vibrant energy of his PATRIA, his homeland of the Dominican Republic. Dominican Reunion! Familiar muralists from the DR, their cohort of street artists, and regional creatives with Dominican roots united on our REUNION wall, an iconic celebration of Dominican culture.

Impact on the Creative Economy:

Each city is an infusion of hyper-local to wildly-international collaboration, with paid opportunities for regional artists to do what they do best, and to grow with us throughout the process. Our lineup is epic, bringing a circuit of globally recognized talent to Massachusetts. We’ve united government officials, local businesses and community organizations through passionate coalitions to shape the narrative and representation of each production. This summer, 20+ artists will respond to these evocative themes through visual channels in the public realm, collaborating with local businesses and community groups in the process.
